About Gyrotonics®

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEMŽ was specially conceived regarding key principles of gymnastics, swimming, ballet, and yoga through which major muscle groups are worked interdependently and in an integrated manner.

Unlike most conventional exercise machines where linear or isolated movement patterns are performed creating uncoordinated strength, the patented GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEMŽ emphasizes multiple joint articulations without compression, thus strengthening ligaments and each attachment.

The motion patterns are natural, turbulence free and pure with no interruption, creating a bridge between contraction and extension through the rotating movement of the joints, resulting in a balanced support system for the skeleton.

Each exercise is synchronized with a corresponding breathing pattern and is performed with either a rhythm or melodic rhythmical expression, creating a gentle or vigorous cardiovascular-aerobic stimulation, depending on the intensity and speed of the execution.

About Yoga

Yoga is over 5000 years old. It is a philosophy evolving from the transcendentalism of ancient India. The Sanskrit word Yoga literally means to yoke or bind. It is often interpreted as "union" or a method of discipline. There are actually eight limbs of Yoga. Asana, the physical practice, and Pranayama, the practice of breath control, are the most commonly practiced limbs of Yoga in America today. These practices help build strength, balance and flexibility and can often compliment other forms of athletic activity, reduce stress, and improve our overall health and well being. At Perfect Balance Therapies, we offer a variety of Yoga classes in classical and therapeutic styles. Classes are open on drop-in or package basis and are suited to all levels of practice. Taught in a mixture of Anusara, Iyengar, and Vinyasa traditions, our classes focus on alignment, purification and moving in harmony with the breath.

About Pilates

Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Developed by Joseph Pilates with an emphasis on natural movement, Pilates can be performed as either mat work or through use of special equipment. At Perfect Balance therapies we offer both mat work and reformer classes, suitable to all levels of experience. Mat classes are offered in a group setting. Reformer classes are available on a private basis by appointment.
