| What is Pilates and why practice? |
|
Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Developed by Joseph Pilates with an emphasis on natural movement, Pilates can be performed as either mat work or through use of special equipment. With systematic practice of specific exercise coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates has proven itself invaluable not only as a fitness endeavor itself, but also as an important adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation. Pilates is a mindful, moderate health practice that yields many benefits. Increased breathing capacity, strength and flexibility of the abdomen and back muscles, and muscular/mental coordination are key improvements gained with a regular practice. At Perfect Balance therapies we offer both mat work and reformer classes, suitable to all levels of experience. Mat classes are offered in a group setting. Reformer classes are available on a private basis by appointment.
